Why not pray before meals on the Alpha course?

On the Alpha course we deeply value prayer and encourage our Leaders, Helpers, and Task Force to pray as much as possible behind the scenes.

However, we do not encourage the Alpha Church Leader or Director to offer a public prayer before the meals because if we have even one person in the room who is not a Christian, they immediately feel that they are in the wrong place. On the Alpha course we want to do all we can to create a safe place for guests to come no matter where they are at in their spiritual journey.
