The Place of Humor on the Alpha Course
We believe it is possible to learn about the Christian faith and have fun at the same time. Generally at the start of the evening there is time for a joke. Humor breaks down barriers and makes people feel more relaxed, especially those who are uncomfortable in church situations. We advise to steer away from cynical, hurtful, or too many church based jokes. Aim to use jokes that have a wide appeal and leave people chuckling rather then groaning.
During the talks we try to introduce as much humor as possible. In fact, if you plan to do the talks live, it is important to follow the talk format in the Questions of Life book and use humor (either from the book or use your own stories) as outlined to communicate the points. We have heard of many courses that did not go well because the speaker simply stated the Bible verses and taught the general principles but left out the humorous stories to illustrate.
Jokes are the most requested pages of this website! Please use the links on the left for some joke suggestions.
