Our Story
Rev. Jake Kim grew up in the Korean-American church and knows the challenges that Korean pastors and parishioners face in America. His heart is in helping Korean first and second generation, Korean and English speaking, Korean-Americans come to know and love Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. After 12 years of serving as an ordained minister of the Word and Sacrament in the PC (USA) and 4 years as a Jundosan-nim, Pastor Jake is committed to equipping, encouraging and empowering Korean-American churches and leaders with this amazing evangelism and discipleship tool called Alpha in the Korean and English language.
President of Alpha USA Gerard Long envisioning the spread of Alpha in Korean in Korean-American churches across the United States, invited Rev. Jake Kim to join Alpha as the National Coordinator for Alpha for Asian-Americans/Koreans in April 2010. He is charged with the development of Alpha in Korean in the United States and educating and training churches and leaders to use Alpha in Korean-American churches that function in Korean or English.
Alpha Korea/Alpha Korea Connection: In May of 2010, Rev. Jake Kim of Alpha USA went and met with Mr. Sang Joon Lee, National Director of Alpha Korea to learn about the successes and challenges of how Alpha in Korea grew rapidly in 10 years. We believe that when Korean-American pastors and church leaders are properly trained to use Alpha in Korean in the United States, that Alpha will become an essential tool for evangelism.
Resources: Alpha USA hopes to support the evangelistic and discipleship efforts of the Korean-American church by providing regular regional Alpha in Korean One and Two-Day Getting Started Events. We also import Korean language Alpha Course support resources like books, DVD's and resources to train and run your Alpha Course, Marriage Course and Pre-Marriage Course in the Korean language. click here
Inter-generational healing. - Korean-American churches using a KM (Korean-Speaking) and EM (English-Speaking) church model will especially benefit from using Alpha to bring unity and harmony between the two generations. Why? Because the solid Biblical teachings offered Alpha in both Korean and English at the same time will give both groups a common point of spiritual discussion and culture.
Second Generation English Ministry - Running Alpha in an English Ministry context can help balance and round out the spiritual development of Second Generation Korean-American Christians. Many second generation Korean-American Christians who fall away from the church during adolescence or college, often find that they need a deeper and more comprehensive theological explanation for why they should be a Christian. Alpha is the perfect evangelism system to help invite and welcome de-churched Korean-American Christians to "explore the meaning of life" and "why Jesus?" in a safe, shame-free, and non-judgmental setting.
