Black Tie Formal Alpha Launch Party
The black tie evening was an Alpha Launch supper. The guests arrived, had dinner and then moved to another room where they had tea and coffee and listened to a talk and a testimony of someone who had done Student Alpha.
They invited guests by getting each student household involved to pay for a table for themselves and 7 guests i.e. 9 people per table. They then invited 7 friends along to the launch and then ran the course for their friends in their home. This meant community was already in place as they invited people they already had relationship with. It also made follow up more natural.
The evangelistic dinner parties are not strictly an Alpha event. They run these as follow up or pre-Alpha throughout the year. Basically the students invite friends to their home for dinner and a talk with discussion afterwards on the talk. Much like an Alpha evening with just one small group. They usually present the gospel but sometimes will choose a specific topic e.g evolution v creation. |
