I am new to Alpha and want to learn more

Why

Developed as a short course at Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London, in 1990 Nicky Gumbel took over running Alpha and found that many people outside of the church wanted to explore the Christian faith. Alpha USA was birthed in the 1990s and exists to serve and equip the church in its mission to help people discover and develop a relationship with Jesus. Alpha now runs in every part of the global church, including the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and all mainline Protestant denominations.

What

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over an eleven-week period. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.

Basics

Millions of people have tried Alpha in more than 160 countries. This guide will give you an introduction to Alpha and help you though the steps you need to run it for the first time.

Attend

A National Alpha Training Lab. Join us in your area for a one-day experience where you will learn how to effectively run Alpha in any context--including Youth, Prison, and Catholic. You'll learn the story of Alpha and why it works, what to do after Alpha, and how running Alpha can revitalize the culture of your church. Although this would be beneficial for you to attend, it is not a necessary step to pilot your first course. This is designed for your team; whether your church is new to running Alpha or you want to see your Alpha grow.

Cultivating Kingdom Culture | January 30-31, 2020 | Mesa, AZ
You’re invited into the conversation with leaders from across denominations to discover together, as the Church, ways to sustain the present move of God in today's culture. Take advantage of optional conference workshops designed to inform, equip, and train you and your team as you explore and grow your Alpha. We believe God is igniting a movement of His power and presence and we get to be a part of it.

Pilot Your First Course

We recommend that you begin small. As you roll out Alpha, begin with a pilot course and invite those who will likely be your future Alpha leaders. This allows your team to catch the vision of Alpha and understand how it works, which will make it easier for them to invite their friends. A pilot course is also a great way to work out the kinks, make mistakes, and improve your Alpha as you prepare for a full launch!

We work hard to make running Alpha as easy as possible. Alpha Builder helps you discover
resources, create a plan, and train your team for your specific context. Best of all: it's free!
